Exciting News!

I am elated, thrilled and so excited to announce today that I have accepted a Design Team position with the Sketches with Color Blog! This will be my first DT experience. I’ve never had assignments or deadlines before with scrapbooking and to be honest? I’m really looking forward to that. Because I am a champion procrastinator. And I’m trying to work on that.

So come visit us on over at Sketches with Color and play along with the challenges! They are posted on the 1st and 15th of every month, and at that time, you will get to see how each of the DT members took on the sketch and color palette.

You know what else I’m looking forward to with this new position? Going back into my stash and really putting something together. For the better part of two years, I have been a serious kit scrapper. And I will continue to be. But I am really looking forward to the challenge of actually digging into that stash of paper (meticulously divided by manufacturer and then collection, of course) and really giving those things I’m hoarding goodies a workout :)

Here’s the layout I submitted for the call :)

Us Two2

All kinds of goodies going on here… Glitz, Maggie Holmes, AT rub-ons (thank you, Amy, for bringing sexy back in the form of rub-ons). Did I mention Glitz? Obsessed with their giant rhinestones right now, I gotta say.

Have a great day!

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2013!

Can you believe the new year is here?  And can you believe it’s 2013?  I can’t.  I always enjoy this time of year, because who doesn’t like a good ol’ fashioned fresh start?  I usually re-organize the whole house this week, and my scrap room.  I didn’t bother with the house, since we just moved in 4 months ago and it’s still pretty orgnanized, but my craft room is another story.  Ever since IKEA opened its doors here in Winnipeg, I’ve been planning the renewal of my craft space.  Not a huge overhaul, but I wanted to add another desk space, since I plan on adding an iMac to the room in due time, and wanted to get rid of my themed drawer units.  I got my hot little hands on this puppy on Friday night, and also bought this to sit on top of these drawers that I already had (in silver).  So now I have my cart and my extra desk, and now I just have to get to work finding something to store all of my packages of embelleshments in.  Maybe some wire baskets?  I don’t know.  That’s where I’m stuck right now.

In other news, I’m hosting LOAW over at Studio Calico this month.  Please hop on over to Challenge Central and check it out!  Please do the challenge, so that you can enter your name in for a Studio Calico Gift Certificate!  That means if you participate all 4 weeks, you get 4 ballots!

Here’s my week 1 – Scrap that New Years resolution!

Ever since as long as I can possibly remember, it has been my dream to go to London.  To check out Buckingham Palace, and Hever Castle, Westminster Abbey and the Tower of London, go to a pub, go to a bookstore with a coffee (the list is really endless).  And FINE, while I’m there, I could probably handle checking out Paris, Scotland, Ireland and Italy.  Fine.  Sure, I could probably squirrel some money aside, but it always ends up being needed somewhere else, right?  So I made myself a Dream Jar, and that will be my New Years Resolution.

Spend no change.  Bills only, and put all remaining change into the dream jar.  Toonies, Loonies, Quarters, Nickles, Dimes, the whole bit.  Pennies Schmennies.  All monies in the jar go towards London, and London only.  There’s no telling when we could find the time to go.  I’d give it probably at least a year, maybe closer to two.  You’d need more time off than usual to go to Europe, so that could get complicated.  But it’s always easy to find reasons not to go when you don’t have the money set aside.  When you do, however, you will find the time.

That’s my challenge.  Scrap your resolution and go ahead and upload it to the Gallery and to this thread for your chance to win!  Here’s mine!

And if you’re not participating in the challenge, tell me what your resolution is!  I want to be inspired :)

Sunday Sketch, and a little challenge for myself

I played along with Sunday Sketch for the first time ever yesterday.  It started out as a challenge to myself to start using some of my stash, instead of pushing it aside for the latest and greatest.  So I challenged myself to use whatever was sitting on my desk, so long as it wasn’t from a current kit, or something I had purchased in the last couple of weeks.

Put that challenge together with Sunday Sketch, and here’s what I came up with!

Thanks for looking!

TGIF

Hey friends, it’s Friday!  I haven’t done so great in the sleep department this week, so Friday is very welcome around these parts today.

Up with a layout I worked on using Roller Rink over at Studio Calico.  And speaking of, I just got my hands on their Wonderland collection!  I haven’t played with it yet, but I do admire it everytime I walk my the craft room.  I have a scrappy day planned tomorrow with my friend Sherri, so maybe that’s what I will break out!

Back to the layout… created using the Starburst mask, and one of my fave instagrams from Part 2 of our honeymoon, in Chicago.

Thanks for visiting, and happy Friday!

Slump Breaker

Participated in a “Lift the Layout Above You” challenge over at Studio Calico this weekend. Just what I needed to get me back into the groove.

I’ve had this large photo lying around for some time now, and was itching to use it.  I pulled out my Central High kit at a crop last weekend and started to mess around with it, and using Monica B’s LO as inspo (since she was the poster above me on the thread), I created this LO about spending New Years Eve in Times Square.

Out for Publication

Ahhhh, it is so good to be back!!

Thanks for looking :)

Sketch Challenge for NSD

This was FUN to make.  It started out as all LO’s do for me.  No clue what picture I want to use or what story I want to tell.  Just paper.  I went with this sketch and started it off wanting to play around with the Classic Calico Vol. 2 collection… and it blossomed from there.

And this my friends, completes the Studio Calico NSD Challenges for me :)   Next up, the cover and first few pages of my on-the-go mini for our honeymoon and starting some prep work on THIS baby.  I was so excited to receive it on Tuesday.  For some reason, I thought it opened right up, but I was mistaken.  It’s the file folders that open up (duh.).  I must say, I was so excited when I heard that Heidi Swapp was back in the product game, and she really delivered.  I love that this allows me to document one big event – and you know, I kind of have one coming up ;)

National Scrapbooking Day!

Well wouldn’t you know… been scrapping for 6 years and this is the first time I have participated in National Scrapbooking Day :)   Everywhere I turned this weekend, there were giveaways, challenges, blog hops and inspo.  I could resist the challenges over at Studio Calico and got down to work (well, and the prize for completing all of the challenges – a $100 gift card!).  I got two layouts done, and one notebook cover.  Not bad for a Sunday!

This one came together rather easily in my mind, but was time consuming to create.  There were 5 challenges, and since combining is allowed, combine I did!  In short, I was to use triangles as inspiration, incorporate confetti, get graphic by using a shape, put to work some alpha stamps and finally, use 5 or more photos on a layout.  I totally combined ALL 5 challenges onto one, because I knew I’d have to do another one for the sketch challenges, and also knew that I wouldn’t get more than 2 done.

So here’s my Studio Calico NSD Challenge Layout:

And here’s the cover I threw together for my notebook at work with the leftover bits of my City of Lights kit.

I have another LO to share in the next few days from the Sketch Challenge!

How much work, if any, did you get done?

TFL!

Another “lift the person above you” challenge…

…was just what I needed to get back to work.  I haven’t scrapbooked in about a month, with the exception of the “Happy Little Moments” book that I am still plugging away at!  I lifted this wonderful layout by Ginny – check it out!

And here is my version

and what have I been doing in the meantime, you ask?  Well, my wedding is coming up in less than three months, so we’re in the home stretch of planning.  Last week and this week really focuses on getting those invitations out.  Yesterday, J and I went golfing and then had dinner at the clubhouse, where we also made a list of all the things that have to be done for our social and wedding day.  We are SO excited!

Speaking of excitement, we booked our honeymoon :)   We will be hopping in the car the day after the wedding for a good ol’ fashioned roadtrip, and heading to Chicago, Illinois.  The next morning, we fly out of O’Hare to sunny and beautiful Hawaii on the Island of Oahu!  We will spend 6 nights at the Sheraton Waikiki, before flying back to Chicago and taking a few days to see the city, check out a Cubs game or two and some SHOPPING!!!  Then we’ll drive home (and probably stop in Minneapolis on the way home, let’s face it).  WOOT!

Thanks for listening and looking!
